Consumer ratings for the Dyson DC23 TurbineHead Canister Vacuum are good – not stellar – but typically greater than 4 stars out of 5. For a Dyson it is not too pricey (depending on where you purchase) and it is said to have strong suction, work well on bare floors & rugs, and to be aesthetically pleasing (a lot of folks mention this). On the other hand it is not as effective as the Dyson DC23 Motorhead on carpet due to its air driven brushbar.
Consumer ratings for the Dyson Turbinehead were found on several quality retail sites. All-in-all the ratings are quite good and average 4.2 stars out of 5.

A review of consumer comments from across the Internet yields the following common Dyson DC23 likes and dislikes:
– Strong suction
– Attractive machine
– Easy to empty dirt canister
– Auto-rewind of power cord
– Good on bare surfaces
– Lots of plastic construction
– Vacuum hose could be longer
– Only average on carpet
Consumer comments also indicate that if you have a lot of carpet the Dyson DC23 Motorhead is likely a better choice (although it is more expensive). The brushbar on the Turbinehead is air driven while that on the Motorhead is motor driven giving it more power and thus ability to clean carpet. In both units the brushbar can be turned off for bare floor cleaning.
Dyson Turbinehead Features
The Turbinehead, like the Motorhead, is powered by a 12 amp motor. It also uses Level 3 Root Cyclone Technology which is said to be Dysons most efficient system for removing microscopic dust. Cyclone technology spins the air extremely fast and uses centrifugal force to remove dust and debris from the air. Dyson claim that this approach eliminates clogging and ensures that the vacuum does not lose suction over time. The DC23 Turbinehead produces 220 air watts of suction.
The Turbinehead comes with HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) filtration. This level of filtration removes dust, pet dander, mold, pollen and many other allergens from the air. The DC23 is certified asthma and allergy friendly by the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America. The HEPA filter is also washable so one doesnt have to buy expensive filters time after time.
Several tools (stored on-board) come with the Dyson Turbinehead including:
A Stair Tool for removing dust and dirt from stairs
A Brush Tool comes with long, soft bristles for delicate cleaning
A Crevice Tool creates high velocity suction and helps vacuum in hard to reach areas.
This is a bagless vacuum and as such it has a dirt canister that is removed, emptied and reattached. This negates the need to buy vacuum bags. The clear plastic dirt canister on the DC23 Turbinehead is bottom empty and said by most consumers to be easy to empty. It has a capacity of 0.44 gallons (fair size and larger than that on the Dyson DC25). The power cord is only 21.6 feet in length however and while we feel that this is too short, it does not seem to be an area of much consternation to consumers.
Weighing in at 19.5 lbs the Dyson Turbinehead is not exactly light nor is it particularly heavy. It seems to fall in a fairly average weight range for canister vacuums and consumers dont seem to comment much on the vacuum weight. Other features include a lightweight adjustable telescopic wand and a 10 inch wide cleaning path (quite narrow). It carries a 5 year parts and labor warranty.
